Ingredients

  • 1 cup of plant-based milk (almond, certified gluten-free oat, soy)
  • 1 bag of black tea or 1 tbsp. of loose black tea
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cardamom
  • 1 pinch of ground cloves
  • 1 pinch of ground nutmeg
  • 1 star anise (optional)
  • 1-2 tsp maple or agave syrup (to taste)

Preparation steps

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the plant-based milk, black tea (if loose, use a tea ball), cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg and star anise (if using).
  2. Heat the mixture over medium-low heat, without boiling, for about 5-7 minutes to infuse flavors. Stir occasionally.
  3. Remove the tea bag (or tea ball) and the star anise.
  4. Add the maple or agave syrup and mix well.
  5. Pour the chai latte into a cup. For a frothier texture, you can blend it for a few seconds or use a milk frother.
  6. Enjoy it hot, possibly sprinkled with a little cinnamon.
Chef’s tip

For an even more intense chai latte, you can infuse the spices whole (cinnamon sticks, crushed cardamom pods, whole cloves, slices of fresh ginger) directly in the plant-based milk before adding the tea. Strain before serving.
